Adrienne Sylver
Dear Librarian:
When my fourth grade teacher assigned a book report on a nonfiction title, I groaned. I was an avid reader, but I didn't want to read about another president or a war that had nothing to do with me. So imagine my surprise when, years later, I found myself writing a nonfiction book for kids.
The idea for HOT DIGGITY DOG: THE HISTORY OF THE HOT DOG came after hearing on the radio that Americans eat two billion hot dogs every July. As a hot dog lover, the fact intrigued me. I began my research and was amazed to discover that Babe Ruth often ate a dozen hot dogs in one sitting, and that the first hot dogs were sold without buns, burning the fingers of those who bought them.
I hope you'll lead the groaners in your school to my book. I love to make school visits, too. I'm offering free signed copies of my book. For a chance to win, visit www.adriennesylver.com.
