ZOO GIRL is a strikingly illustrated picture book with a big story told in only 20 words. The story is a heart-warming adventure-filled tale of a lonely girl with no family finding friendship amongst the animals in a zoo - riding the elephants, swimming with the penguins, sleeping with the tigers, and eventually finding a family of her own by being adopted by the zoo keepers. ZOO GIRL is a challenging story covering issues such as loneliness, rejection, family, care homes, and adoption so would suit a slightly older audience than a typical picture book. The reason I told it in so few words was to give the reader a chance to put their own interpretation on the strong images, and so it could be told differently on every reading. It would also perfectly suit an older child with reading difficulties as the story is stimulating but the words are few!
