Susan Carlton
Dear Librarian:
Ah, island life in Maine: Cute houses, cute boys, even a cute commute (seventeen minutes on the ferry)...But the years I spent in Maine didn't turn out so picture-postcard-perfect. I was a fish out of water, and so is the main girl in my novel, LOBSTERLAND.
Charlotte loves her siblets, stilettos, the boy next door, Benjamin Moore paint samples, and the idea of escaping the island she nicknames Bleak. For all her quirks, what I love most about Charlotte is the way she worships words. I still have total recall of my favorite teacher's vocab list—anytime I stumble across, say, "parsimonious" I get a little thrill.
Some of you have been early champions of LOBSTERLAND, for which I am incredibly grateful. But for those of you who missed Charlotte's should-I-stay-or-should-I-go story, I hope these summer months might entice you to take a closer look. And if you'd like to win a signed copy, along with some lobster swag, send me an email at www.susancarlton.comI'll pick winners at random.
