Susan Carlton
Dear Reader:
I hatched the idea for LOBSTERLAND in the seventeen minutes it takes to ferry-boat over from Portland, Maine to Peaks Island. It was a picture-postcard-perfect day, but I wondered if it would seem that way to a girl desperate for a bigger pond and a bigger life. As someone who'd moved a ton, I knew first-hand what it felt like to be a fish out of water, and I tapped into that (along with a love for stilettos!) in creating Charlotte.
Sixteen-year-old Charlotte is stuck in the wrong place and in the wrong family. Her escape plan: To apply to boarding school without telling a soul. As the deadline looms, her questions pile up. Is her boyfriend cheating with her best friend, the likely Lobster Goddess? Is her mother popping so many pretty pharmaceuticals that she can't care for Charlotte's little siblets? Is leaving even the answer?
If you're in the mood for a little escapist Maine-ia this summer, check it out! And if you'd like to win a signed copy, along with some sweet lobster swag, send me an email though my website, www.susancarlton.comI'll be selecting winners at random.
As Charlotte would say, don't miss the fugging boat!
