Years after dropping out of high school and running away with bad boy Burly Hanson, Marly returns to her hometown to fulfill a promise she made to her daughter, Katie, who has recently been treated for brain-cancer. Katie has never met her grandmother Winnie, since Marly and her mother have been estranged for years. But dealing with the dark secrets of the past is crucial if Marly and her mother are ever to rebuild the bond they once shared.

To complicate matters, living next door to Winnie is handsome sheriff, Reed Bennett, and his young son, Ham. Ham and Katie become fast friends while their parents discover an attraction that goes deeper than mere friendship. Still, Marly's time in Dreyerville is limited and risking her heart is something she's determined not to do.
