Dear Reader,

I saw my first wildfire more than 25 years ago: That blaze burned through fire-adapted chaparral, resulting in an incredible display of wildflowers, and it shaped my view that fire is a vital part of nature. And it's not going away. Wildfire is growing as a problem and, just as fire shaped the young Earth and created the world we live in today, fire will shape our future, too.
