Liesbet Slegers
Dear Librarian:
When I was little, I drew almost every day. During my studies, I developed my way of drawing: simple forms with bright, shiny colours and I've kept at that.
With THE CHILD IN THE MANGER, I wanted to tell the story of Christmas for very young children and couldn't find such a book: the story in a very simple version, with a modern look. Attractive for parents and children. Even though it's a very old story, the illustrations didn't have to look 'old'. Now, it has become my new, own version of the story.
I also wanted to show the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. Children know the word 'birthday' very well and so I worked to tell the story on their level, putting the joy and warmth of Christmas in the picture.
I hope you will enjoy reading this book, as I do with my own little children, under the Christmas tree! Care to take a peek? Email clavis@deborahsloanandcompany.com for a review copy.
Happy holidays,
Liesbet Slegers
