Renée Khatami
Dear Librarian:
I never forgot a Sesame Street animated short I watched with my daughter years ago on the color black. I loved the idea of a child's perspective on this mysterious color. Or, is it a color? That is part of the riddle that has perplexed artists forever. What we experience in our lives makes black a color. I love to think of black molasses on hot oatmeal, or a sparkling night sky. This is the underdog color.
I wanted to evoke black from a child's world, in a rhyming book that can be experienced with almost all of our senses. The color black should have its own book.
Please don't eat the licorice page, but please do pet the soft black bunny, and find a surprise hidden inside!
A great companion for LITTLE PINK BOOK.
Contest: Send me your favorite childhood memory of the color black at rkhatami@verizon.net.
