Gayle Brandeis
Dear Librarian:
Libraries have always been my second home. I love the thought of young readers discovering my first middle grade novel on library shelves. MY LIFE WITH THE LINCOLNS tells the story of twelve year old Mina Edelman, who thinks her family is the Lincoln family reincarnated and it's her job to save them from their fate. I set the story in 1966 Chicagomy hometownwhen Martin Luther King, Jr. came to the city to spearhead marches for fair housing. Mina and her father end up getting deeply involved in the civil rights movement, with consequences for the entire family. It is my hope that young people will be inspired by Mina's actions (author Julianna Baggott calls her a "brilliant, courageous, funny, young heroine") and will want to make their own world a better place.
I would love to speak at your library, either in person if you're in Southern California, or by speaker phone or Skype if you're elsewhere. Drop me a line at gaylebrandeis@gmail.com and we'll make it happen.
Thanks for all you do to encourage young readers!
All the very best,
Gayle Brandeis
