Dear Librarians,

On April 15, 2013, I waited with my five-year-old son at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. When the blast of a homemade bomb packed with nails and screws went off three feet away; my legs took the brunt of the explosion but protected my son. Seventeen surgeries and sixty-five procedures later I made the decision to have my left leg amputated. It was the best decision I ever made.

This is the story of how I took my life back.
