As a teenager I happened across Adrienne Rich's sentiment: If we could learn to learn from pain even as it grasps us. Mourning the loss of a friend, I took comfort in the idea that insight hides within grief. In I LIKED MY LIFE, the characters learn exactly that, in their own imperfect way.
