Dear Librarians,

When I first began writing THE THIRD HILL NORTH OF TOWN, I had an image in my head of three people in a Volkswagen Beetle, racing down a dark highway in the middle of the night. I had no idea at first who these three people were, or where they were going in such a hurry, and was quite surprised to eventually discover one was a middle-aged schizophrenic woman and the other two were teenaged boys, all on the run from the law, traveling from Maine to Missouri in late June of 1962. Their story continued to surprise and delight me as I wrote it, veering off in directions I never expected, and I hope the journey is as enjoyable for you as it was for me!
