Dear Reader,

I saw my first wildfire more than 25 years ago: That blaze burned through fire-adapted chaparral, resulting in an incredible display of wildflowers, and it shaped my view that fire is a vital part of nature. And it's not going away. Wildfire is growing as a problem and, just as fire shaped the young Earth and created the world we live in today, fire will shape our future, too.

Educators tell me that reading FIRE SHAPES THE WORLD with kids helps them view wildfires as a force to be understood, appreciated, and, as PW says, "respected." Midwest Book Review calls it "unique, original, and very special addition to... picture book collections for children ages 4-8." I hope you agree.
