Dear Reader,
One day, while riding my bicycle through an historic black neighborhood in Atlanta, I came upon this scene: African Americans strolling sidewalks past a white man, who stood in front of his newly purchased home, sweeping the steps.
The scene was hardly new. In fact, gentrification is reshaping urban centers across America. What struck me was that, beyond academic studies and nonfiction accounts, the recent trend of whites moving into black neighborhoods has scarcely been explored from the inside out.
Standing there, I tried to imagine, what are blacks' reactions to the tide of "outsiders" migrating in their midst? Conversely, what are the experiences of white newcomers who suddenly find themselves in the unusual position of being in the minority?
The result is a fictional story, titled THEM. New York Times Bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey said "Them, a mirror of our time and souls, is awesome and destined to become a contemporary classic."
Thank you for supporting my work.
