Dear Reader,
One hundred years from now, when people are writing and thinking about the private lives of American women, they are going to notice a lot of things that we take for granted about ourselves: our desire for costly and elaborate weddings; the rise of Martha Stewart as a cultural force; our obsessions with child safety and childrearing; the general anxiety about how often a normal married woman is supposed to be having sex. Instead of waiting for historians to come to terms with the American woman circa 2006, I wanted to do it right now. I talk about some of the things that matter most to women in this video, and I hope that in watching it and reading TO HELL WITH ALL THAT, women will see things in their lives that they hadn't seen before.
