Toni Raiten-D'Antonio, LCSW

Dear Reader,

I've spent a lot of time, effort and money trying to be pretty. Actually, I was trying to avoid being ugly. When I truly understood and accepted that I am ugly, it almost broke my heart. But coming out of denial also let me see that I been suffering from an unnamed fear – I call it ugliphobia – for as long as I could remember.

This fear is caused by the overwhelming pressure to be beautiful, and the bigotry directed at those who fall short. And here's the big news: everyone I know lives with this fear because according to the impossible standards of the day, everyone is ugly.

UGLY AS SIN explores the origins of this ugly problem (in biology, history and culture), and shows how it controls, manipulates, and damages us. This is a way out of the ugly trap. We're all ugly and we're all beautiful. Now what are we going to do about it? Come with me and find out.
