Dear Reader, If I said that I could steal for you any painting in any museum in the world, which would you choose? In researching my first novel, THE ART THIEF, I learned that there was almost nothing written on the history of art crime. Interested, I decided to pursue it for my PhD. Although I am always surprised to hear others say it of me, I quickly became the world expert in the field of the study of art crime. THE ART THIEF follows the path of two stolen paintings across Europe, following thieves, forgers, smugglers, and the detectives pursuing them. It provides a real behind-the-scenes look into the fascinating worlds of art galleries, auction houses, academia, and museums. If I've done my job well, you'll finish the novel knowing much more about this world than when you began, but you'll have had such a fun, absorbing read, that you won't have realized you'd been learning all the while!
