Dear Reader, The land I'm from in cattle country Minnesota is full of oddballs and thwarted dreamers, and even after years of living in San Francisco I couldn't stop thinking about them, and so I wrote this book HEAVIER THAN AIR about the people I loved. The stories are mini-novels that quietly buzz with life and secrets, like a hot summer afternoon in the country. Girls fall in love with the wrong people, a farmer discovers unexpected solace in a highway median, a mother reunites with her wayward daughter.
